With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of this beloved ‘Game of Thrones’ actor at 35

The acting world is mourning the loss of Michael Patrick, who has died at the age of 35 after a battle with Motor Neuron Disease.

The news was shared by his wife, Naomi Patrick, in a heartfelt message that captured both the grief of his passing and the remarkable spirit he carried throughout his life.

“Words can’t describe how broken-hearted we are… Mick was an inspiration to everyone who came into contact with him—not just in the past few years during his illness, but every day of his life.”

She described him as someone who lived fully, with warmth, humor, and a presence that left a lasting impression on those around him.

Patrick had been diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in February 2023, a progressive condition that affects the nerves responsible for movement. In many cases, it leads to muscle weakness and loss of mobility over time. Despite the severity of the illness, he continued to work and remained creatively active.

According to his wife, he passed away peacefully in hospital, surrounded by family and close friends. She also expressed gratitude to the medical team who cared for him during his final days.

“We are so grateful for every person who supported us through the last few years.”

Born in Belfast, Patrick trained at the University of Cambridge, where he performed with the renowned Cambridge Footlights. He later refined his craft at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, building a strong foundation in both classical and contemporary performance.

His stage work included appearances with the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he performed in productions such as Measure for Measure and The Taming of the Shrew. These roles highlighted his versatility and deep connection to theatrical tradition.

On screen, Patrick gained wider recognition through his appearance in Game of Thrones, where he featured in season six. He also appeared in series including Blue Lights, This Town, and the BBC production My Left Nut, along with other television roles that steadily expanded his presence in the industry.

Even after his diagnosis, he remained committed to his work. In 2024, he took on the demanding title role in Richard III at the Lyric Theatre Belfast, a performance that stood as a testament to both his talent and resilience. His final screen appearance came in the 2025 German television film Mordlichtern – Tod auf den Färöer Inseln.

Earlier this year, Patrick shared a deeply personal update, revealing that he had been given a limited prognosis. Yet even then, his outlook remained grounded and forward-looking.

“Still lots to live for and lots planned.”

In her tribute, Naomi also shared a quote he loved, one that now resonates with quiet poignancy:

“The most important things to do in the world are to get something to eat, something to drink, and somebody to love you. So don’t overthink it. Eat. Drink. Love.”

Michael Patrick’s passing is a profound loss at a young age, but his legacy—marked by dedication to his craft, resilience in the face of illness, and a life lived with sincerity—remains.

He is remembered not only for his roles on stage and screen, but for the spirit he brought to those who knew him.
